Will Women-Only Portable Toilets Become More Common?
May 8, 2023INFOGRAPHIC: How Much to Pay Employees
May 22, 2023As a portable restroom operator, it can feel like it’s you against the competition 24/7. But the reality is that the PRO community is filled with folks sharing knowledge and bouncing ideas off each other. Of course, we’re not talking about chatting with your direct competitors. Instead, consider trade shows and social media groups where you can interact with like-minded professionals.
Here’s how to form a supportive network and leverage connections to your advantage.
Chat with Peers at Portable Sanitation Trade Shows
Conferences are great places to meet vendors and put a face to a name. Another benefit of trade shows is the opportunity to talk to portable restroom operators from across the country or even the world. Most conventions offer downtime or scheduled networking hours.
Attend scheduled events to hang out with PROs and vendors. It’s a good chance to swap stories and mull over challenges. A few conversations as a group can help you realize that what you’re seeing in your part of the world is part of a larger trend. It can introduce emerging concepts that have taken off on one side of the continent, allowing you to get a jumpstart before it hits your area.
There are a few great tradeshows to attend, and you may find it worth it to join an organization. For instance, Portable Sanitation Association International (PSAI) brings industry members together to connect and learn. They host virtual roundtable meetings and educational conventions. Another PSAI benefit is lifelong friendships.
Interact in Online Portable Restroom Groups
Virtual community groups bring together PROs and are convenient. You can drop by and check out the latest posts or view responses to your pressing questions. Some threads get dozens or even hundreds of comments, allowing individuals to banter back and forth.
Social media groups are an excellent place to share stories and commiserate with fellow portable restroom professionals. Sometimes, you come across new ideas or ways of approaching a challenge just by reading through comments.
Here are a few Facebook groups for PROs:
- Portable Toilet Network (PTN)
- Porta Potty People (PPP)
- PRO’s (Portable Restroom Operators)
- Portable Sanitation Professionals International

The Value of Networking with PROs
Everyone needs an outlet outside the workplace. But spouses and friends aren’t always interested in a day in the life of a portable restroom owner/employee. Nor do you want to degrade your brand or turn off potential customers. Networking with PROs allows you to do more than let off steam. You can gain valuable insights, troubleshoot problems, and expand industry knowledge.
Networking can also help build confidence. It’s a good feeling when you can give a fellow PRO advice to solve a problem. Or ask for ideas that’ll give you a win from people who aren’t worried about you encroaching on their customers.
Expand Your Network
The portable sanitation industry is competitive. But it’s full of professionals willing to share their knowledge with fellow PROs and support them during hard times. Networking at trade shows or in online groups can help you whether you’re discussing best practices or seeking tips before buying a new product.
