How to Get the Most Out of Your Employees
August 14, 2017What are the Costs of Starting a New Business?
August 14, 2017Marketing and sales are two of the most important aspects of a business that can make or break its success in the first five years. In any business, marketing refers to selling and promoting your business’ products or services. Marketing takes place within the search for new, potential customers to attending fairs, expos and business network meetings. Business marketing is the arrow that targets your audience in order to best serve their needs.
Any sale is the result of good marketing, whether you have landed your first client or drafted a new contract with an existing customer. You and/or your sales team will develop relationships with customers, negotiate contracts and pricing while emphasizing benefits, add-on features and quality services. Hand-in-hand marketing and sales serve as the water and spout of your company. It is important to fine tune each aspect to benefit your portable restroom rental business.
Here are some of the top tips we have compiled in this niche-specific industry that will improve your business and enhance your status and visibility within the community you serve.
Be Well Branded
Your brand includes a logo, color scheme, practice or design method that differentiates you from other brands, whether they are your competition or not. When you see a logo like the Nike swoosh or Apple’s apple, you not only recognize the company but also can identify what they sell, the quality of their products and areas or lifestyles the products cater to. Your brand must relay the same message.
If your logo is blue, your drivers, units, stickers, business cards, decals and anything else associated with your business should be consistent. If your truck is driving along the road on the way to service units, your brand should clearly communicate to drivers and pedestrians who you are through consistent and thorough branding.
Uniformity also applies to your mission statement and services offered. Do you claim to operate with high quality? Then you should produce high-quality services.
Remain Active and Engaged in Your Community
One of the easiest and best ways to stay visible in the region you serve is to simply show up within your community. From sponsoring a little league team to remaining active in community events, your business and brand will gain traction and support when you support others.
The portable restroom rental industry applies to so many areas in community life; it is wise to tap into this resource and get to know the people who need your services. Outside sales representatives in the field should be dedicated to staying active in the new construction community while staying up to date with upcoming events and activities in your local area.

Network, Network, Network
There is real value to be had in business networking events in your community. If you have high-end units within your fleet, invest in a booth at a bridal expo to let potential customers know why your units would fit in perfectly with a luxurious outdoor wedding. Attend business networking meetings to investigate upcoming construction projects or connect with event planners who are looking to book a year’s worth of portable restroom rentals for upcoming food expos, sporting events, concerts or festivals.
Educate and Train Your Drivers Well
Your entire team should be trained and knowledgeable about the services provided by your business, but your drivers should be exceptionally well versed in the industry and business standards.
On an average day, one of your drivers might meet 5-15 people who could use your services. Training your drivers to connect with these potential clients will land you new and repeat business based on their knowledge of your business.
It is also a consideration to provide incentives for your drivers. If one of your employees is coming back from servicing units at a construction site and sees a banner for a new apartment complex or business park, provide an incentive for him or her if you end up booking the job. Driver-led referrals can be one of the best and easiest ways to employ high-quality drivers and land new jobs.
Sales and marketing don’t have to be difficult, nor do they have to be expensive. Understanding some of these topics on a superficial level will help build your business and brand exponentially. Create success by investing time and money in both sales and marketing and watch your business soar!
