How to Effectively Manage and Maximize Your Drivers
August 6, 2018Should You Hide Your Branding at the Request of a Customer?
August 13, 2018When you’re setting up your own business, it can sometimes feel like there are a hundred things you need to do before you’re up and running. You’ve bought the trucks, units, and supplies, but what about training your staff, who’s going to collect your wastewater, and are there any organizations you should join?
Luckily, there are some fantastic and well-supported portable restroom industry organizations that you can join that will help to pool many of your resources in one place and support you in building your new business.
We’ve listed some of them below to help get you on your feet.
Portable Sanitation Association International (PSAI)
PSAI is an internationally recognized organization that aims to set the standards for the portable sanitation industry through training and certifying PRO employees. It also works to boost the awareness of the benefits of the portable sanitation industry globally, through fantastic initiatives in developing countries and around the globe that highlight how portable restrooms can resolve sanitation problems.
Becoming a member of PSAI has many bonuses, as the association helps its members build successful businesses within their communities. Furthermore, PSAI certifications are internationally recognized. In some states, these certifications are mandatory. Even if you’re not required to get them, it’s worth looking into taking some of their training courses and exams, as customers will be more likely to choose a service provider who is certified and follows the Industry Code of Excellence, which PSAI members must adhere to.
Also, if you join PSAI, you get added to their PRO Finder tool which is an excellent directory to be listed on. Clients searching for PROs in their area can enter their ZIP code and review all the businesses local to them. Being listed here will really boost your chances of getting jobs.
Ontario Association of Sewage Industry Services (OASIS)
While PSAI is technically an international organization, it operates mostly in the US. In Canada, there are similar associations. OASIS is the best-known, and it offers services like training resources, annual conferences, waste removal, and a PRO directory. These can be availed of by PROs operating not only in Ontario but the rest of Canada also.

State Wastewater Removal Organizations
Back in the US, each state should have its own association or organization for the removal of wastewater. A list showing some of them can be found here at the National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (NOWRA) website.
If your state is not listed, it just means it isn’t affiliated with NOWRA. Contacting your state body for waste management will lead you in the right direction.
Better Business Bureau (BBB)
Outside of the PRO industry, adding your business to the BBB means you’ll join 5.2 million companies across the US, Canada, and Mexico whose profiles are publicly displayed online. In 2016 alone, these profiles were viewed 167 million times, making the BBB a recognizable and trusted form of marketing that can boost your sales.
Joining the organizations above connects you to your industry and the business world in general. The great thing about the wealth of options is that the support structure goes from the very local right up to the global. Become a member of some of these associations today and get the resources, support, and recognition you need to get your business started.
