How to Decide Which Trucks to Buy and Which Options to Add
February 13, 2023INFOGRAPHIC: Ways to Sell Portable Sanitation Equipment
February 20, 2023Demand for new and used portable restroom units remains high. So much so that used toilets get snapped up quickly. This leaves us wondering if PROs are finding restroom units in their desired colors and brands or taking the mix-and-match approach.
In this week’s Pulse of the PROs, we want to know how important it is for your units to match. Do you buy used or new units in the same color or from the same brand? Are All of Your Units the Same Brand or Color?
Your inventory is your most significant investment. You want portable rental units that hold up over time and appeal to your customers. In addition, your porta-potties should be easy to work with. Several benefits exist to having identically colored porta-potties from the same manufacturer.
It ensures brand consistency so your clients know what to expect every time. The same goes for your service teams. Their familiarity with certain manufacturer models makes repairing and maintaining them easier and quicker. Plus, you already have the parts and accessories to match them. For these reasons, many PROs choose one manufacturer and color for their line. But do most PROs? That’s what we want to know. Do your units match?
Which Features Catch Your Eye in the Classifieds?
Classified ads for portable restroom units describe their age, condition, and type — perfect for PROs looking for good value. However, they’re rarely on the market long. When comparing restroom units for sale, does it matter if they’re the same as your current models?
What details make you pause when reading ads? Are you looking for specific colors, manufacturers, or accessories? Or, do price and condition outweigh other factors?
Color or Manufacturer: What’s More Important?
Some PROs also use colored porta-potties to distinguish service lines, like events or construction. With nearly every color to choose from, PROs can make a statement with their rental units. But, if you had to choose between the two, what would matter more? Matching the unit color or sticking with the same brand?

Do Mismatched Units Have a Purpose?
If you purchase units that don’t match the majority of your fleet, what do you use them for? We’ve found that mismatched porta-potties work well for farm or rural use, as backups or for parts, and for construction purposes. Many PROs also use sticker decals or plates to identify their company. They can maintain a level of continuity when using the same or a mix of brands and colors.

Color is number one concern with me. I’ve been silver or grey for 30 years. When multiple units are on site, whether it be a jobsite or event, they need to be the same brand as well. There is nothing that makes me crazier than having mismatched units next to each other. I keep my event units separate from my construction units with a different door decal.
