Staffing Special Events: From Start to Finish
September 10, 2018Tips for Placing Units
September 17, 2018As a portable restroom operator, you’re going to need a range of supplies for your business to function. That means you’re going to have a number of different suppliers – portable toilet manufacturers, truck and vehicle manufacturers and sellers, and chemical and cleaning product manufacturers.
As you’ll be dealing with suppliers across different industries, it’s important that you find ones you can trust. You’ll want to get the best deals and the best products, as well as the best customer service you can find.
Here are some industry tips on what you can look out for in order to get the best service from your suppliers:
Treat Your Suppliers Like Customers
A lot of experienced PROs mention this – they say that using your customer service skills comes in handy when dealing with suppliers. When speaking with or negotiating with suppliers, always be courteous. Remember that you are their customer, and they are more likely to work with you if you’re friendly and earnest.
Build a rapport with your suppliers, get to know them, and you’ll find that a strong relationship leads to more attentive customer service on their end. If you have a problem with parts, need to return something, or want to haggle for a better price, you’re certain to get what you need quicker if you’re known as a good customer.

Understand What You Need
Don’t walk blindly into buying supplies. Before you order a product, get to know what the product is as best you can. Do some research and figure out what it is you need.
If you’re still unsure, don’t worry, just make sure that the supplier’s customer service people walk you through the process and talk out what you’re looking for. Ensure that your supplier is someone who will help you make these decisions and not rush you into buying. If you feel that a supplier is pressuring you or doesn’t have the time to assist, look elsewhere.

Always Check Their Return Policy
It may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people forget to check up on a supplier’s return policy before they purchase. If you can’t see the info on their website or manual, call them up and find out your rights. You don’t want to end up paying a lot of money for something you can’t return.
Look for Warranties
A good warranty is a sign that the supplier trusts their product. If you have the option of two products and one is slightly more expensive but comes with a better warranty, consider going with that one. Down the line, warranties can save the day when something goes wrong.
Over time, you’ll find the suppliers that are right for your business needs. It may take some trial and error, but following the guidelines above should help you make the right decisions early on so that you don’t waste time and money shopping around.
