November 9, 2020No one knows for sure when the COVID-19 pandemic will be in the rearview mirror. With that in mind, it’s important to demonstrate to customers that your portable restroom business is taking the proper precautions and following recommended safety guidelines.
If you haven’t already, it is suggested that you create a COVID-19 response document that can be shared with customers. This can be in the form of a manual, pamphlet or info sheet. Some of the key topics are listed in the COVID-19 response checklist infographic below. You can use it as a reference and make any necessary modifications as you put together documentation specific to your business.

COVID-19 Response Checklist for Customers
Prevention Measures
- Required PPE for employees
- Use of different gloves for cleaning toilets & sinks
- Cleaning all rental equipment with EPA-approved products
- Stocking rental equipment with toilet chemical, soap and/or alcohol-based products prior to use
- Social distancing between employees & customers
- Alternate forms of communication when possible (videoconferencing, instant messaging, texting, etc.)
Mitigation Measures
- Thorough & safe service of rental equipment to neutralize the virus
- Employees encouraged to stay home & seek testing if they suspect exposure
- Employees required to immediately leave the worksite & seek medical advice if they begin experiencing symptoms
Notification Process
- Customer will be notified if our employee is confirmed positive and was in close proximity to someone at your site
- Customer is asked to notify us if you had an employee confirmed positive that was in close proximity to our employee
Return to Work Criteria
- Workers suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 may return to work under the following conditions:
- 72 hours without symptoms
- Improvement in respiratory symptoms
- Minimum of 7 days since first symptoms appeared OR
- Resolution of fever without medication
- Improvement in respiratory symptoms
- Negative results of FDA-authorized test
Ongoing Service
- Service will be provided on the contractually agreed-upon schedule
- Supplementary service & supplies will be provided as needed/requested at an additional cost
- If requested equipment/supplies are not available, reasonable substitutes will be offered
- Worksite must be accessible for service on the agreed-upon schedule
- Invoices must be paid promptly
