There’s a point early in Arc Raiders where the game stops being polite and starts asking whether you can actually move through Blue Gate without getting picked apart. That’s what “A First Foothold” does. On paper, it’s just four repair jobs. In practice, it’s your first real lesson in route planning, timing, and knowing when to back off. If you’ve already been checking what kind of ARC Raiders Items players usually bring into risky runs, you’ll get why this mission feels tougher than the objective list makes it sound. The interactions themselves are quick. Staying alive long enough to reach them is the hard part, especially when bots and human squads are drifting through the same lanes.
Ridgeline and Olive Grove
The first two stops tend to catch newer players out because they look easy from a distance. Over in Ridgeline, you’re searching for a wrecked observation deck on the eastern side of the map. You walk up, stabilize the platform, and that part’s done. Simple enough. The problem is the angle of the area. You’re exposed from more than one side, and if you rush in right after spawn, there’s a decent chance someone else had the same idea. After that, the route usually pulls you south into Olive Grove. There’s a raised platform there with a yellow comms terminal, and activating it clears the second task. A lot of players get greedy here and linger. Bad move. Olive Grove attracts traffic, and not the friendly kind. If you hear shots nearby, don’t assume the fight is moving away from you. The third objective sends you north, close to the Data Vault, where a ruined church sits half-broken and easy to miss if you’re hugging cover. This bit feels different from the earlier steps because it’s not just about reaching the place. You’ve got to climb. Use the scaffolding, hop across the broken sections, then pull yourself up to the roof. Up there, the old satellite setup needs adjusting to restore the local Raider signal. It’s a neat moment, honestly, but it’s also one of those spots where you suddenly realise how visible you are. You’re silhouetted, stationary for a second, and every missed sound cue starts to matter. If you’ve got a teammate, this is where having overwatch helps a ton. The last task is out in Trapper’s Glade on the western side, where a small Raider shack needs patching up. You climb onto the roof and secure the loose metal sheets. That’s all. But the area’s rarely calm, and ARC patrols can wander in at the worst possible second. Clear what you can before you start the interaction, because getting interrupted there is annoying in the most predictable way. More importantly, don’t treat this quest like it has to be completed in one perfect run. It doesn’t.
